I have a Canon 6D (mark 1) and I was looking to use my existing Speedlite 270EX II as an off-camera flash. The flash works great on the camera but it's not recognised off it. To the right of the optical viewfinder (or in the top-right corner fo the LCD) there is a button labeled "Start/Stop" but notice the ring around the button is actually a swtich which can be rotated to the camera position or to a video position. Make sure the swing is rotated to the camera position.
MagicLantern software is not as good as many of us like to think. I use a Canon 5D Mark II and when I read about this software, I got excited, as probably many Canon user did, I ignored the warning on the download website that warns us - rightfully so - that the software can turn the camera into a brick. It sure did mine.
It is not designed to be inter-changed by the user as a matter of course but probably like on other Canon bodies (e.g. the 5dMKIII) it is replaceable if you have some technical skill and the right tools, and can find the right part.
